The Wausau Fire Department has 65 members and all are trained to perform multiple tasks. A typical member is trained to perform duties of:
- a Fire Fighter
- an Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or Critical Care Paramedic
- a Hazardous Materials Response Technician
- an Emergency Vehicle Operator
- a Technical Rescuer
- and a Fire Inspector

- Utilizing many pieces of apparatus that include: 3 Fire Engines, 1 Mid Mount Stick Ladder, 1 100' Platform Aerial truck, 5 ambulances, 1 heavy rescue vehicle, 1 hazardous materials incident tractor/trailer, Airboat, Rescue Boat, and Command/Inspections vehicles.
- Providing fire protection to our communities serving 39,106 people within an area of 20.33 square miles.
- Providing emergency medical services (EMS) to 6 communities serving 45,164 people in an area of 186.10 square miles.
