Not all emergency calls the City of Wausau Fire Department receives are limited to structure fires, or medical calls. All department members are also trained on technical rescue incidents that can and do occur in the response area that is covered by the City of Wausau Fire Department. The department responds to many of these incidents per year requiring special skills and tools. Again in addition to being Firefighters, Paramedics, Hazmat technicians all department members are also trained on specialized incidents:

• Swift/High Water Rescue
• Ice Water Rescue
• Confined Space Rescue
• Trench Rescue
• Advanced Vehicle Extrication
• Elevator Rescues
• Industrial Accidents
• High Angle Rescues

In between emergency calls, team members train yearly on these specialized rescue techniques and also train on the tools that are required during these emergencies.
