Water Treatment Facility
On March 26, 2019, the Common Council of the City of Wausau approved the construction of a new water treatment plant at 700 Bugbee Avenue to replace the existing water treatment plant currently located at 1701 North River Drive.
Alternative energy consideration was also a part of the new treatment facility. Utility staff has determined solar may be very beneficial long term power generation alternative to assist in offsetting electrical costs at the new Facility. There are two solar concepts that have been prepared for anyone who may be interested. Further power studies and analysis will be provided to the Wausau Water Works Commission for a final decision of moving forward with a solar power generation concept.

Sewer Rehabilitation Project
Each year the City of Wausau contracts to complete a sewer rehabilitation project. The rehabilitation of existing sewers takes place by the installation of cured-in-place pipe (CIPP). A CIPP is formed by the inversion of a resin-impregnated flexible felt tube into the existing pipe. The tube is expanded with air or water in an inversion process to fit against the original conduit, and then heated to cure the resin. The finished product is a jointless structural pipe that is formed to the existing pipe. This project takes place on numerous streets throughout the City.
